What Length is a Shorty bed?

The shorty bed length is a minimum of 175cm, and the width of 75cm, based on the mattress size. We recommend you check the actual dimensions of the bed you like the look of, which we provide on every product listing.

Of course, mid-sleepers, high-sleepers, and bunk beds are taller than your typical bed. They will have a ladder that will be used to get into the bed, so this needs to be taken into consideration as well if you plan on buying a shorty bed for your child.

Why Choose a Shorty Bed?

Shorty beds are very cost-effective, designed with kids in mind, and can make an excellent transition from a cot. The transition could be intimidating for your child and the larger dimensions of a normal bed may make them feel anxious, resulting in disturbed sleep patterns. Many shorty beds, particularly mid-sleepers and high-sleepers, will have safety rails that will provide similar security to a cot. Alternatively, you could consider a toddler bed, which is low to the floor, and has safety rails.

As they’re shorter than a normal single bed, they make a great option for smaller bedrooms. To help keep your child’s bedroom clutter-free, many shorty beds come with plenty of space underneath for storage, which will not only keep toys out of the way but will keep the monsters out too!

Do Shorty Beds Come With Mattresses?

Yes, our shorty beds come with the option to purchase a mattress. We have a wide selection of shorty-size mattresses to choose from to suit every budget. Below are our top picks that you can add to your shorty bed order:

What Age are Shorty Beds for?

Shorty beds are ideal for kids transitioning from a cot (around 2-3 years old). As for maximum age, this all depends on how quickly your child grows. The length of a shorty mattress is 175cm, so we would recommend not choosing a shorty bed if your child is taller than 155cm.

What's the Difference Between a Shorty Bed and a Single?

The shorty bed length and width are 15cm smaller than a normal single bed. Small single beds are the same width as a shorty (75cm) but are 190cm in length like a normal single bed.

Size Dimensions
Shorty W 75cm x L 175cm
Small single W 75cm x L 190cm
Single W 90cm x L 190cm
